Georgia REALTORS® Announce Fundraising Competition to Benefit Georgia’s Food Banks

ATLANTA, GA- June 1, 2020 – Georgia REALTORS® (GAR) announced last week that registration is open for their inaugural REALTORS® Fighting Hunger campaign, a two-week virtual fundraising competition among 50 local REALTOR® boards/associations to help end hunger across the state. The competition is presented by the GAR and the Georgia Food Bank Association (GFBA).

From June 15 – 21, GAR local boards/associations will go head-to-head to see who can raise the most online donations for their regional food bank. For every $1 raised, each team participating will earn four points in the competition. At the end of the competition, the team with the most points overall and the most points per capita in each board/association size category will be awarded. The team that raises the most money overall statewide in the competition will receive the Hunger Fighter Cup, and the team that raises the most money per capita statewide will be awarded the Food Champion Cup. There will also be a winner from each of GAR’s nine regions.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, one in seven Georgians were food insecure, including one in five children. Social distancing, decreased work opportunities, and childcare facility closures are exacerbating the struggles of families that were already wondering how they would put their next meal on the table, and impacting a new group of Georgians who have never sought food assistance before. The REALTORS® Fighting Hunger campaign was created to support Georgia’s food banks in their mission to alleviate hunger in our communities during this time of increased need.

“We are excited to join forces with the Georgia Food Bank Association in order to combat hunger at this critical time,” said Faron W. King, 2020 President of the Georgia REALTORS®. “Georgia’s food banks need our support now more than ever, and REALTORS® have a 100-year history of serving their local community, so this competition is a perfect fit for us.”

All funds raised stay local and benefit the food bank that serves each board/association’s local community. Georgia REALTORS®, in partnership with the Georgia Food Bank Association, is committed to helping provide critical food support to our neighbors living with food insecurity and assisting Georgia’s food banks in the fight against hunger.

“We are pleased to partner this year with the REALTORS® Fighting Hunger campaign” said Executive Director of the Georgia Food Bank Association, Danah Craft. “Georgia’s food banks are responding to the greatest increase in need that our network has ever seen, and we are delighted to have the support of Georgia’s REALTORS® during this time of hardship for many Georgians as they struggle to stay afloat financially and also keep food on the table.”

Visit starting on June 15 for more information on the competition.
