April is Fair Housing Month!

Georgia REALTORS® partners with local boards, associations, and GAR member brokers to provide affordable quality education under our Partners in Education Program. These classes are scheduled throughout the state and have varied topics.
With April being Fair Housing Month, here are many courses offered throughout the month of April that satisfies the new NAR Fair Housing Training Requirement for all REALTOR® members. This requirement began January 1, 2025, with a deadline of December 31, 2027.

At Home With Diversity
At Home With Diversity (AHWD) is an educational opportunity designed to present a picture of the changing face of the real estate industry to real estate brokers, agents, association executives, and anyone associated with the industry. The class teaches real estate professionals how they can increase their sensitivity and adaptability to future market trends. It addresses issues of diversity, fair housing, and cultural differences. Participants will learn practical skills and tools to expand business and effectively service all cultural groups. This class satisfies one of the Core Standards requirements under Section 3 – Consumer Outreach. NAR Certification

 

Fairy Tale of Housing
What is fair housing? How did it come about? Why should any of us care? Discrimination in housing has negative effects on every portion of society. This interactive course is designed to expose attendees to how fair housing affects real estate professionals in addition to their clients.

 

Culture Fusion in Real Estate Embracing Cultural Proficiency
This course provides an insightful look into the history of housing equality in the United States, intertwined with the development of cultural proficiency in the real estate industry. It is tailored to give real estate professionals an understanding of historical housing policies, their ongoing impact on diverse communities, and the role of culturally proficient practices in modern real estate.

 

Fair Housing in Action: Law, Leadership, and License Responsibility
This course equips Georgia real estate professionals with a working knowledge of Fair Housing laws and practical strategies to ensure compliance in daily business activities. Through real-world scenarios, discussion, and application, students will learn how Fair Housing intersects with Georgia License Law, ethical practice, and professional risk management. Emphasis is placed on leadership, accountability, and protecting both consumers and licenses.

 

Challenges of Stinkin’ Thinkin’ – Fair Housing
This class is to ensure that students understand Fair Housing and its impact on communities and individuals. Fair Housing Law establishes equal treatment for everyone as the standard. Social stigmas, personal biases, and stereotypes can affect the way we do business subconsciously. The perception of biased treatment will lead to trouble, while sensitivity to diverse cultures leads to inclusion which increases the quality of LIFE FOR ALL in the community! This class satisfies one of the Core Standards requirements under Section 3 – Consumer Outreach.

 

Fair Housing
This class covers the fundamentals of the Fair Housing Act, explaining the legal protections against housing discrimination based on protected characteristics like race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability; outlining the different forms of discriminatory practices, how to recognize them, and the legal consequences of violating fair housing laws; and providing guidance on best practices to ensure equitable housing access for all individuals, including understanding reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities.
